Hallmarking

My Sterling Silver Pendants and Bangles are Hallmarked at the London Assay Office.UK.  (my earrings are not required as they are under the legal weight).

This is your guarantee that they are made of 925 Sterling Silver.

The mark shows the year, the provenance (a lions head, which is only found in the London based Assay Office and identifies it as such) and my own makers mark (my initials).

Precious metal hallmarking is the oldest form of consumer protection anywhere in the world. We have been hallmarking silver since the 12th Century!

In the UK, hallmarking precious metals of a certain quality and is over 7.78 grams is a legal requirement. In fact, the Hallmarking Act 1973 makes it impossible to legally market your precious metal goods (of a certain quality) without hallmarks. It is required that the hallmark is used so that customers can identify the quality of the jewellery piece they’re buying.

The information is provided by the Assay office and is a legal requirement if items are being promoted as 925 Sterling Silver.
